The standards we apply to every guide, product review, and species page we publish.
Independence
SnakeReport's editorial team operates independently of our commercial team. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no input into our ratings, rankings, or written analysis. A brand does not pay to appear on a "best of" list — and paying us would not change a ranking.
Sourcing
For species information, behavior, and venom data we rely on published herpetological literature, state wildlife agencies, the CDC, and peer-reviewed research. For product reviews we rely on hands-on testing, manufacturer specifications, verified buyer reviews, and direct comparison against competing products.
Fact-checking
Every article is reviewed by a second contributor before publication. Any factual claim about a species, a product specification, or a safety procedure must be supported by at least one verifiable source.
Updates and corrections
We update guides whenever new research, new products, or new state regulations change the answer. When we correct a meaningful error, we mark the change at the bottom of the article. See our Corrections Policy for full details.
Reader trust
If a recommendation could put a reader, child, or pet at risk, we err on the side of caution. We will not recommend a snake-handling technique, removal method, or first-aid practice that contradicts current medical or wildlife-agency guidance.
